In the late 1960s, the psychologist Stanley Milgram
conducted his famous experiment to find the answer to what is known as the
"small world problem "---
determining how human beings are socally connected.*
From this experiment is where we get the expression six degrees of separation, popularly realized by the task of
associating Kevin Bacon with any other actor in six or less steps.
This is the place where I get to post gossip, tell embarrassing stories, and in general honor or
poke fun at that small portion of the individuals with whom I share one degree of separation.
I've provided some of the vitals and pictures of these wonderful people; If I'm
mistaken or outdated about any facts (not that I claim to offer any), or if I
have failed to list an important person (like you, if you're not on this list),
please drop me a note.

*In short, Prof. Milgram sent letters to 160 random
individuals living in Omaha, NE, and asked them to mail the letters to an (unknown to them) stockbroker
in Boston, MA. The participants weren't told to whom to address the letters; typically each mailed his/her
letter only to someone they knew that lived in the general Boston area. The recipient, in turn, mailed it
to someone he/she suspected might know, or know someone who knew, the stockbroker. Milgram found that most of the letters reached the stockbroker in five or six steps.
